Application of farm management techniques in case of oil pumpkin production

The oil pumpkins (Cucurbita pepo L.) are traditional field crop in eastern Slovenia. The oil, produced out of pumpkin seeds is highly valued in nutrition, other parts of the pumpkin fruit can also be used (animal feed). Processing of seeds into oil is additional opportunity for farm business for field crop farms. The goal of this paper is to estimate the costs of oil pumpkin seeds production and costs of processing those seeds into oil. The estimated total costs represent the basis for computation of break-even prices and financial results gained. The enterprise budgets are derived with the simple computer model that simulates the oil pumpkin production. The results of the model show that processing seeds into oil brings about higher financial results than with pumpkin seed production.
