[Health situation of apricot tree crop in Countries of Mediterranean basin [Prunus armeniaca L.]]

The sanitary status of the apricot industry in the region is discussed based mainly on the results of surveys carried out during the 1990s in the main apricot growing areas of Albania, Italy (Apulia region), Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Palestine, Spain, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey (Eastern Anatolia). The virus incidence in all the surveyed areas, as a total, was 11.9%. However, the range of infection incidence was wide, from less than 1% (Turkey) to about 74% (Malta), but in the majority of Countries it was in the range 3-12%. During the above surveys, the viruses identified by ELISA and/or recovered by sap-transmission to herbaceous hosts were: Apple chlorotic leaf spot virus (ACLSV), Prunus necrotic ringspotvirus (PNRSV), Prune dwarf virus (PDV), Apple mosaic virus (ApMV) and Plum pox virus (PPV). ACLSV and PNRSV were the prevailing viruses, being present in 6.3% and 5.6% of the tested trees, respectively. The presence of Hop stunt viroid (HSVd), determined by molecular hybridisation and PCR, was surprisingly high in several Countries. [Viene discusso lo stato sanitario delle colture di albicocco nella regione sulla scorta dei risultati di indagini condotte nel corso degli anni '90 nelle principali zone di coltivazione dell'albicocco di Albania, Italia (Puglia), Giordania, Libano, Malta, Palestina, Spagna, Siria, Tunisia e Turchia (Anatolia Orientale). L'incidenza dei virus in tutte le aree indagate, nel complesso, e' risultata dell'11,9%. Tuttavia, l'intervallo di incidenza era ampio, da meno dell'1% (Turchia) a circa il 74% (Malta), ma nella maggior parte degli Stati era compreso fra il 3 il 12%. Nel corso delle indagini ricordate sopra, i virus identificati mediante ELISA e/o recuperati tramite trasmissione meccanica su ospiti erbacei sono stati: Virus della maculatura clorotica fogliare del melo (ACLSV), Virus della maculatura anulare necrotica del Prunus (PNRSV), Virus della vaiolatura del susino (PPV), Virus del mosaico del melo (ApMV) e Virus della vaiolatura del susino (PPV). ACLSV e PNRSV sono risultati i virus prevalenti, dato che sono risultati presenti, rispettivamente, nel 6,3 e nel 5,6% delle piante saggiate. La presenza del Viroide del nanismo del luppolo (HSVd), determinata con ibridazione molecolare e PCR, e' risultata sorprendentemente alta in numerosi Paesi.
