Characterization via image analysis of PVC targets for spraying tests [polyvinyl chloride - plant protection]

With the present note, the Author would like to furnish a contribution to the characterization of artificial targets in PVC, more suitable than the hydrosensitive papers, due to their hydrophobic nature, for the study of the pesticide treatments through image analysis when high volumes are distributed. With reference to experimental data, fairly representative for sprayed volumes (750 and 1,700 l/ha), airflow rate (17,500 and 22,000 cube m/h) and pressures of exercise (10 and 30 bar) of the modalities of treatment in the citrus orchards (with sprayers equipped with hydraulic nozzles), a theoretical model of their behaviour that furnish an excellent approximation of the functional link between degree of coverage, density of the spots and their average dimension with relative coefficient of variation, has been obtained. Verified the validity of this link, the generation of drops belonging to the same statistical population of that experimentally obtained has been simulated, in order to evaluate the degree of overlap between the surface covered by the drops and that covered by the spots. In this way it has been possible to establish ulterior statistical interpolations that connect the values of degree of coverage, the quantity more directly measurable, with the number of drops and with the degree of overlap, useful to finally connect the data acquired on these artificial targets with the foliar deposit

[Con la presente nota, l'Autore intende fornire un contributo alla caratterizzazione di bersagli artificiali in PVC, piu' adatti rispetto alle carte idrosensibili, grazie alla loro natura idrofoba, per lo studio dei trattamenti antiparassitari mediante analisi dell'immagine nel caso di distribuzione di volumi elevati. Con riferimento ai dati sperimentali, sufficientemente rappresentativi, per volumi irrorati (750 e 1.700 l/ha), portata dell'aria (17.500 e 22.000 m cubi/h) e pressione di esercizio (10 e 30 bar), delle modalita' di trattamento negli agrumeti (con atomizzatori equipaggiati con ugelli idraulici), e' stato ottenuto un modello teorico del loro comportamento che fornisce un'approssimazione eccellente del legame funzionale fra grado di copertura, densita' delle impronte e loro diametro medio con relativo coefficiente di variazione. Verificata la validita' di questo legame, e' stata simulata la generazione di gocce appartenenti alla medesima popolazione statistica di quella ottenuta sperimentalmente, allo scopo di valutare la sovrapposizione fra la superficie coperta dalle gocce e quella coperta dalle impronte. In questo modo e' stato possibile effettuare ulteriori interpolazioni statistiche che pongono in relazione i valori del grado di copertura, la quantita' piu' misurabile direttamente, con il numero di gocce e con il grado di sovrapposizione, utili alla fine a collegare i dati acquisiti su questi bersagli artificiali con il deposito sulle foglie]
