Influence of row spacing density on the yield and quality of Wislica tobacco variety leaves
2002
Mis, T. (Rzeszow University (Poland). Dept. of Economics)
The aim of the research was to compare the effects of plant spacing on the yield and market value as well as on important qualitative characteristics of the tobacco leaves. The qualitative analysis of leaves included the content of nicotine, water soluble carbohydrates and true proteins. The wider plant spacing (70x40 cm) positively influenced the quality of leaves, by increasing the content of carbohydrate and nicotine content, and lowering the content of protein. The weather conditions in the vegetative period of tobacco influenced considerably the quality of leaves. A positive correlation between nicotine content and sunshine hours and air temperature, and the negative correlation of nicotine content and total rainfalls was recorded
