Yielding of four broccoli cultivars in autumn cultivation

In experiments in 1998-99 4 broccoli cultivars (Coronado, Fiesta, Lord, Marathon) were planted out on 10 June, 25 June or 12 July 1998 or 25 June or 12 July 1999. Planting date had no direct effect on the yield of main heads. In 1998 the highest yield of main heads was obtained from planting on 25 June, compared with on 12 July in 1999. Yields of 17.4-24.9 t/ha main heads and 0.9-12.9 t/ha lateral heads were recorded. The greatest yield of lateral heads was recorded for Marathon and Fiesta from the earliest planting date in each year. The heads with the greatest mean weight were obtained from planting on 25 June, 1998, compared with on 12 July in 1999
