Identification of Campylobacter spp. strains isolated from humans and animals

Английский. Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli are common causes of human acute bacterial enteritis worldwide (Notermans, 1994). The most widely used phenotypic procedure has been serotyping, based on the Penner and Lior schemes. These techniques are technically demanding and a lot of strains are untypeable. Therefore it's necessary to develop other rapid and sensitive techniques to discriminate among Campylobacter strains at genus, species and types level. In this research 50 Campylobacter spp. strains, isolated from animals (28 strains), humans (14 strains) and foods (8 strains), have been identified by using biochemical techniques, multiplex PCR and automated ribotyping. Results gave 96% of typing correspondence between the isolates, whereas 4% gave a different result with one of the techniques under study

Queste tecniche richiedono notevole dispendio di tempo e molti ceppi non sono tipizzabili. Percio' e' necessario sviluppare altre tecniche, rapide e sensibili, per distinguere i ceppi di Campylobacter a livello di genere, specie e tipo. In questa ricerca sono stati identificati 50 ceppi di Campylobacter spp., isolati da animali (28 ceppi), uomo (14 ceppi) e alimenti (8 ceppi), utilizzando tecniche biochimiche, PCR multiplex e ribotipizzazione automatica.
