Responses of cytoplasmatic male sterile lines to various restoring resources [Zea mays L.]

Английский. One key step in using cytoplasmic male sterile (cms) lines in maize hybrid production is selecting a proper restorer (R-line). Six cms lines, GDS (C), C836G (C), C836H (S), CX36B (S), C736CA (T), and C936G (T), were used to study the responses to various restoring resources from inbreds 8112, 478 (common maize), So1, So2 (sweet maize), Wo1, and Wo2 (waxy maize). Inbreds from sweet maize could restore the fertility of cms-T and cms-C lines, while inbreds from waxy maize could restore the fertility of cms-S and -C lines. Except GDSxSo2, all test-crossed plants which were restored exhibited consistent restoration in Spring and Autumn 2001. Our report proposes a method to select suitable R-lines for commercial production of hybrid maize

Sei linee cms, GDS (C), C836G (C), C836H (S), CX36B (S), C736CA (T) e C936G (T), sono state utilizzate per studiare le risposte alle varie risorse restorer derivanti dalle linee consanguinee 8112, 478 (mais comune), So1, So2 (mais dolce) Wo1, e Wo2 (mais ceroso). Le linee consanguinee di mais dolce potevano ripristinare la fertilita' di cms-T e cms-C, mentre le linee autofecondate di mais ceroso potevano ristorare la fertilita' di cms-S e cms-C. Eccetto GDSxSo2, tutte le piante incrociate in cui era stata ripristinata la fertilita' hanno evidenziato un ripristino consistente nella primavera e nell'autunno 2001.
