The coastal soil in Sungai Besar, Selangor is situated in the Barat Laut Paddy Project. This area is one of the most important rice production areas in Malaysia. A study on the pH and trace element contents was initiated in order to determine the quality of these soils which have been fertilized for many years to sustain crop production. Eighty four geo-referenced soil samples (0 - 20cm) were collected from Sungai Besar area and analyzed for trace elements (Cu, Cd, Pb and Zn) and pH. Ordinary kriging was carried out to map the spatial patterns of the selected trace elements. The mean trace elements concentration for the area is: Ni (15.0 mg kg-1), Cu (16.7 mg kg-1), Pb (38.0 mg kg-1) and Zn (41.0 mg kg-1). These results show that trace elements concentrations in the area are still under permissible level. Semivariogram model for Ni is linear and exponential for Cu, Pb, and Zn. The ranges for spatial dependence for the trace elements are 760 for Ni, 2110 m for Cu and Pb and 1700m for Zn.
