Crecimiento durante la fase de establecimiento de Brachiaria brizantha (Hochst ex A. Rich) Stapf y B. dictyoneura Stapf en el asocio con soya (Glycine max L.)

Con el objetivo de estudiar el crecimiento y si se produce competencia por luz en el asocio de las gramíneas B. brizantha (CIAT 6780) y B. dictyoneura (CIAT 6133) con soya (Glycine max) variedades IAC-8 y Júpiter, se condujo el presente experimento en la Finca Experimental "La Montaña" del CATIE ubicada en Turrialba, Costa Rica. Se utilizó un diseño de bloques completos al azar, en un arreglo en parcelas divididas, donde la parcela grande correspondía a la modalidad de siembra de la gramínea (Asocio a soya IAC-8, Asocio a soya Júpiter, bajo sombra simulada de las variedades de soya, y el cultivo puro) y la subparcela (7.5 x 3.0 m.) al arreglo factorial de las dos gramíneas con dos orígenes de multiplicación (sexual y asexual). La información se registró cada 14 días en la gramínea mediante un muestreo sistemático y en los estadios fenológicos V4, R4, R5, R6 y R8 en la soya. Los datos en las gramíneas fueron analizados mediante ANDEVA para las variables biomasa aérea máxima, área foliar máxima y en la soya para producción de grano. Para el análisis de las tendencias se utilizó un ajuste a regresión lineal simple, comparándose las tasas mediante el método no paramétrico Chi-cuadrado de Friedman. Asimismo, los datos de las variables biomasa aérea y área foliar para las gramíneas y la soya, y la relación H/T en la gramínea, fueron ajustadas a diferentes modelos de crecimiento. B. brinzantha compitió eficientemente por luz con las variedades de soya, comportándose como cultivo dominante en el asocio, siendo su rendimiento en biomasa de 66 por ciento (251 g/planta) con respecto al cultivo puro (355 g/planta). El mejor ajuste fue al modelo exponencial. B. dictyoneura, por el contrario, no compitió eficientemente por luz en el asocio y fue dominada por el cultivo de soya, en el uso de los recursos limitantes, con rendimiento relativo del 13 por ciento (23 g/planta) en relación a su cultivo puro (177 g/planta). El mejor ajuste para esta variable fue el modelo logístico. Se explica el comportamiento de las gramíneas, a través del diferente hábito de crecimiento lo que favoreció o no la respuesta a la disminución de luz, como también por la competencia por espacio físico y nutrientes, principalmente N. El área foliar mostró un comportamiento similar, salvo que se presentaron diferencias significativas entre los orígenes de material de multiplicación sexual (1130 dm/planta) y asexual (916 dm/planta), en B. brizantha. Los cultivos asociados ajustaron a un modelo exponencial , mientras que para el cultivo puro fue cuadrático. En B. dictyoneura el ajuste fue cuadrático para el cultivo puro y el asocio con soya IAC-8 y cúbico para el asocio a Júpiter. La relación H/T, en B. brizantha comenzó con valores de 2.0 y disminuyó rápidamente e independiente del tratamiento. En B. dictyoneura el valor inicial fue aproximadamente de 1.5, y disminuyó menos drásticamente en los cultivos asociados que en el cultivo puro. La floración de las dos especies de gramínea ocurrió durante el desarrollo del experimento, siendo más acentuada en B. dictyoneura que en B. brizantha, lo que coincidió con el período de días más largos y la presencia de un estrés hídrico. Sin existir pruebas específicas, respecto a los factores que la inducen, se sugiere estudiar este aspecto. Las determinaciones de la fenología en las gramíneas, permitió elaborar un muestreo estratégico para estudiar el crecimiento, durante las fenofases de macollamiento, elongación, y en el inicio, plenitud y fin de floración. La producción de grano de las dos variedades de soya, disminuyó cuando estuvieron asociadas con B. brizantha. En promedio para las dos variedades su rendimiento relativo fue del 54 por ciento (1363 kg/ha) con respecto al cultivo puro (2594 kg/ha), mientras que con B. dictyoneura no presentan diferencias respecto al cultivo puro, ya que su rendimiento relativo promedio fue del 93 por ciento (2413 kg/ha) del cultivo puro. El empleo del Uso equivalente de la Tierra (UET), para decidir sobre el mejor asocio, no demuestra con claridad el comportamiento de las especies en el mismo. Se recomienda continuar con los estudios de la respuesta fisiológica en asociaciones con cultivos más adoptados por el productor y leguminosas forrajeras, e incorporar diferentes prácticas agronómicas.

The present experiment was conducted at the CATIE Experimental Farm "La Montaña" located in Turrialba, Costa Rica, with the objective of studying the growth and whether light competition occurs in the association of the grasses B. brizantha (CIAT 6780) and B. dictyoneura (CIAT 6133) with soybean (Glycine max) varieties IAC-8 and Jupiter. A randomized complete block design was used, in a split-plot arrangement, where the large plot corresponded to the modality of planting the grass (IAC-8 soybean association, Jupiter soybean association, under simulated shade of the soybean varieties, and the pure crop) and the subplot (7.5 x 3.0 m.) to the factorial arrangement of the two grasses with two origins of multiplication (sexual and asexual). The information was recorded every 14 days in the grasses by systematic sampling and at phenological stages V4, R4, R5, R6 and R8 in soybean. The data in grasses were analyzed by ANDEVA for the variables maximum aerial biomass, maximum leaf area and in soybeans for grain yield. For trend analysis, a simple linear regression adjustment was used, comparing the rates using Friedman's non-parametric Chi-square method. Likewise, the data of aerial biomass and leaf area variables for grasses and soybean, and the H/T ratio in grasses, were adjusted to different growth models. B. brinzantha competed efficiently for light with the soybean varieties, behaving as the dominant crop in the association, with a biomass yield of 66 percent (251 g/plant) with respect to the pure crop (355 g/plant). The best fit was to the exponential model. B. dictyoneura, on the other hand, did not compete efficiently for light in the association and was dominated by the soybean crop in the use of limiting resources, with a relative yield of 13 percent (23 g/plant) in relation to the pure crop (177 g/plant). The best fit for this variable was the logistic model. The behavior of the grasses was explained by the different growth habit, which favored or did not favor the response to the decrease in light, as well as by the competition for physical space and nutrients, mainly N. The leaf area showed a similar behavior, except that there were significant differences between the origins of sexual (1130 dm/plant) and asexual (916 dm/plant) propagation material, in B. brizantha. The associated cultivars fitted an exponential model, while for the pure cultivar it was quadratic. In B. dictyoneura the fit was quadratic for the pure crop and the association with soybean IAC-8 and cubic for the association with Jupiter. The H/T ratio in B. brizantha started with values of 2.0 and decreased rapidly and independently of the treatment. In B. dictyoneura the initial value was approximately 1.5, and decreased less drastically in the associated crops than in the pure crop. Flowering of the two grass species occurred during the development of the experiment, being more accentuated in B. dictyoneura than in B. brizantha, which coincided with the period of longer days and the presence of water stress. Without specific evidence regarding the factors that induce it, it is suggested to study this aspect. The phenology determinations in grasses allowed the elaboration of a strategic sampling to study growth during the phenophases of tillering, elongation, and at the beginning, fullness and end of flowering. The grain yield of the two soybean varieties decreased when associated with B. brizantha. On average for the two varieties, their relative yield was 54 percent (1363 kg/ha) with respect to the pure crop (2594 kg/ha), while with B. dictyoneura they did not show differences with respect to the pure crop, since their average relative yield was 93 percent (2413 kg/ha) of the pure crop. The use of Equivalent Land Use (ELU) to decide on the best association does not clearly demonstrate the behavior of the species in the association. It is recommended to continue with the studies of the physiological response in associations with crops more adopted by the producer and forage legumes, and to incorporate different agronomic practices.
