Aronson, Virginia
Abstract: The basics of nutrition, the most recent findings on diet and health, and suggestions for improving nutritional status are presented in this easy-to-read, practical guide to incorporating nutrition concepts into individual lifestyles. Topics that are discussed include 1) nutrients in a balanced diet, 2) basic food groups, 3) weight control, 4) foodshopping, and 5) meal planning. Health foods, food additives, and food-drug interactions are briefly reviewed. Thirty different nutrition topics are presented in a series of steps that can be completed in one day's time. Questionnaires, quizzes, self-assessment exercises, and other types of activities are used to present the material. Features include an end of the month summary, a diet diary, menus, recipes, and advice for making diet modifications at home, in the supermarket, and dining out. The guide may be useful in organizing lesson plans for formal classroom teaching or as a reliable nutrition information source for individuals desiring to improve their own diet, health, and well-being.
