Tips for feeding preschoolers

Abstract: A brief phamplet for parents provides a number of practical guidelines for feeding preschool children. Suggestions include planning and serving daily meals at regular times; the use of foods having color, mildness, and varied texture; allowing the child to help prepare his/her meal if possible; allowing sufficient time (ea. 30 minutes) for eating; avoid feeding when child is overtired; and the use of variety in food choices. A table provides suggested serving sizes for 1-3 year-olds and for 4-5 year-olds for different foods in each of the 5 basic food groups. (wz).
