The female stress syndrome
1984
Witkin, Georgia
Abstract: A self-help guide focuses on the many stresses and stress symptoms unique to women. The 10 chapters identify the stresses which work on the female mind and body, those that are inherent to mothering, working, aging, sex, love, and marriage. Information on endocrinology, physiology, developmental psychology, medicine, anthropology, and clinical psychology is presented for the layperson. Specific advice is given on recognizing and handling stress in different situations (e.g., motherhood, widowhood, working while children are young). The Type A behavior identified in men is also described in women. Ways to live with stress are offered along with self-help exercises (to reduce the effects of stress) relaxation techniques, and guidelines to help women manage their lives. (kbc).
