Abstract: Information is presented on the nutrients needed for optimum health and ways to ensure good nutrition. Emphasis is on the healthy individual who wants to remain healthy, but information also is given for those with medical problems. Question and answer format is used to discuss: the major nutrient categories (proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals); amount of nutrients needed; nutritional remedies; caffeine, alcohol, and drugs; problems of women; indigestion; weight loss; diet and heart-related problems; problems that affect people as they age; and vegetarian eating. A number of recipes are included and the 6 appendices cover: fast foods; natural toxins; diabetic exchanges (meal planning and fast foods); food additives; and height-weight tables. (kbc).
