Correlation and path analysis studies in okra [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench]

Correlation and path analysis were carried out in different yield attributing traits of okra. Studies on correlation revealed the higher magnitude of genotypic correlations than the corresponding phenotypic ones, indicating the inherent association among the various traits. Fruit yield per plant exhibited significant and strong positive association with plant height, fruit length, number of fruits per plant and days flowering to maturity. Path coefficient analysis revealed that plant height, fruit length, number of fruits per plant, days to flowering and number of seeds per fruit had high positive direct effect on fruit yield whereas, fruit diameter, single fruit weight exhibited high indirect positive effect via days to flowering. The present study on correlation indicated that higher fruit yield can be obtained by increasing length of fruit, number of fruits and plant height.
