Propagation of "bridal bouquet" (Spiraea cantoniensis) by rooting of cuttings

The “Bridal bouquet” has great potential to be used as a cut flower, but there is little information on the asexual propagation of this species. Thus, the objective was to evaluate rooting of “Bridal bouquet” with different doses of IAA and substrates. In the first experiment, treatments consisted of four doses of IAA (0, 1000, 2000 and 3000 mg∙L-1) and three types of stem cuttings (apical, medium and basal). In the second experiment, treatments consisted of four substrates: vermiculite, coir dust, commercial substrate (Bioplant) and rice hulls, three types of cuttings (apical, medium and basal) and three evaluation periods (21, 28 and 35 days after cutting - DAC). The number of roots and average length of roots were evaluated. There was no interaction between IAA doses and type of cuttings, of which the dose of 3000 mg∙L-1 and the apical cuttings provided a higher number of roots per cutting and average length of roots. There was no interaction between substrate, type of cutting and period of evaluation for number of roots but the apical cutting and commercial substrate provided a higher number of roots per cutting, being superior to the others, while evaluation at 28 DAC provided the greatest number of roots. The type of cutting did not affect average length of roots, while root number was highest at 35 DAC, and the commercial substrate provided the greatest average length of roots. From the results, it is recommended to propagate bridal bouquet using IAA, 3000 mg∙L-1, apical cuttings grown in commercial substrate (Bioplant) and 28 days for rooting.
