A greenhouse experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of calcium concentration and the osmotic potential of the nutrient solution on growth and nutrient status of Gabriela hybrid tomato seedlings (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.). Three calcium concentrations (30, 45, and 60%) as a percentage of the total of cations and three osmotic potentials (-0.072, -0.092, and -0.112 MPa) of the nutrient solution were used. A completely randomized design with a factorial array of treatments with three replicates was used. Leaf area, seedling dry matter weight of roots, stems and leaves, and nutrient accumulation and concentration in each organ were determined. Nutrient solution with 60% calcium increased seedling root dry weight 41.3% compared with that produced by the nutrient solution with 30 and 45% calcium. The nutrient solution with 30% calcium increased phosphorus (24%), potassium (31%) and magnesium (27%) concentration and seedlings phosphorus (33%) and magnesium (26%) accumulation in seedlings. Calcium concentration was higher (49%) when they were fed 60% calcium than when fed 30 or 45%. Calcium content and osmotic potential of the nutrient solution had a significant effect on the nutrient concentration in root, stem, and leaves of tomato seedlings.
