Analysis of Crosslinked Silicones on Wool by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy
1995
Evans, David J.
A simple method has been devised for the quantitative analysis of crosslinked silicones on wool. The advantages of this method are its insensitivity to the presence of silica or silicates and its ability to detect concentrations less than 0.1% silicone solids on the mass of wool. The method involves depolymerization of the cured silicone by aminolysis with anhydrous n-propylamine. The solubilized silicone is then extracted into methylisobutylketone and the silicon content determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy. The method has been tested with two commercial amino functional organosiloxanes currently used in finishing wool fabrics.
