Vitamin B-6
1982
Rutishauser, Ingrid H.E.
A literature review provided the basis for recommending the vitamin B-6 complex (pyridoxine, pyridoxal, and pyridoxamine). The functions of the active form were evaluated. Discussion covered: total body content; absorption and excretion; experimental deficiency in animals; experimental deficiency in man; naturally occurring deficiency in man; inherited dependency syndromes; and interactions with other nutrients and drugs. Conditions affecting metabolism; food sources and intakes; and toxicity were examined also. Proposed recommendations are given and are to be related to those for protein intake at all ages with special requirements noted for pregnancy and lactation. (kbc)
