Coburn, S.P. | Whyte, M.P.
Topics reviewed in this chapter include: the relative role of erythrocyte phosphatase in the vitamin B-6 metabolism; liver disorders and B-6; skeletal diseases; pregnancy; interspecies comparisons; Down's syndrome; and acid phosphatase. The effect of phosphatase activity upon plasma pyridoxal 5-phosphate levels is discussed. The authors conclude that alkaline phosphatase has a significant role in the regulation of vitamin B-6 metabolism in hypophosphatasia and other conditions.
