Efficacy of insecticides under open and controlled conditions against Blister beetles on greengram

Blister beetle inflicts huge losses in short duration crops like greengram on account of its association with flowering phase and high damage potential. On account of wider host range, robustness and high mobility, management of blister beetles is always an issue. Present study was framed to evaluate the treatments at Pulses Research Unit, Dr. P.D.K.V., Akola, during 2011–12 Kharif season. The treatment effects under open field condition were also confirmed by evaluation under confined condition. Application of cypermethrin 10 EC (1ml/L), chlorpyriphos 20 EC (2 ml/L) and acephate 75 SP (2 g/l) were more effective in minimizing adult blister beetles abundance translating in higher grain yield. Application of cypermethrin 10 EC (1ml/L) and acephate 75 SP (2 g/l) at flowering phase was found more effective in terms of higher yield (8.3 and 8.0 q/ha, respectively), net profit (Rs.. 9530 and 8390/ha, respectively) and higher Incremental Cost Benefit Ratio (1:15.4 and 1:11.8, respectively). Similar efficacy trend was confirmed under confined field conditions, where application of cypermethrin 10 EC (1ml/L) and acephate 75 SP (2 g/l) at flowering phase registered higher yield (10.5 and 10.2 q/ha, respectively), net profit (Rs. 11980 and 10990/ha, respectively) and higher Incremental Cost Benefit Ratio (1:19.3 and 1:15.5, respectively). Thus, application of cypermethrin 10 EC (1ml/L) and acephate 75 SP (2 g/l) can be recommended for the cost effective management of blister beetles on greengram.
