A Simple Technique for Preparing and Maintaining Sterile Soils for Plant Studies
1967
Bartlett, R. J. | Zelazny, L. W.
The proposed method depends upon the antimycotic activity of propylene oxide and the permeability of polyethylene. Inside a warmed pressure cooker, the epoxide diffuses rapidly through a plastic bag, sterilizing the moist soil contained. Release of pressure reverses diffusion. Detoxication is completed under vacuum at 45C. The bag then serves as a chamber for the storage of sterile soil or for the sterile culture of plants.
