Dynamics of the content of various fractions of water in the organism of roach Rutilus rutilus L. in response to catching, transportation, and further acclimation to laboratory conditions

It is shown that, at the initial period of acute stress caused by catching and transportation, the total water content in the organism of roach sharply increased (by 2–4.8%) within 3–6 h by means of its free fraction. Defense reactions aimed at decreasing and stabilizing a fraction of free water at a higher or a lower level were intensified to resist the flood process in the fish organism. The fraction of osmotically unresponsive water in the organism of roach during stress and acclimation was maintained at a low level within 6 days (2.82 ± 0.03%) and then had a stepwise increase by 45% and further maintained steadily high values (4.09 ± 0.03%). Two levels of osmotically unresponsive water in the organism seem to reflect a different physiological state of animals.
