Triazole fungicides that inhibit cytochrome P-450 enzymatic 14-alpha-demethylation of sterols also inhibit the biosynthesis of the phytotoxin viridiol produced by the biocontrol agent Gliocladium virens. Concentrations (0.5-1 ppm) of fungicides required to inhibit viridiol biosynthesis do not inhibit growth of the biocontrol agent.
