Different soil profiles were selected in the Sierra Norte region of the state of Puebla, in which genetic horizons were analyzed for content of iron forms in soils. The study of the content of iron forms reveals that the major element (iron) is important for diagnosis and classification of soils. This allows appreciation of some differences in the intensity of the soil alteration process.
