Dietary fiber and nutrient intake in Crohn's disease
1979
Dietary factors for 35 patients with Crohn's disease were examined to determine whether eating habits had any relation to development of the disease. Factors considered included the average daily intake of fiber, sugar, starch, protein, fat and energy content, which were then compared to healthy controls matched for age, sex and socioeconomic background. Fiber, sugar, starch and total energy consumption were all higher for patients with Crohn's disease. In some cases, sugar was 90% of caloric intake and accounted for the increased energy intake.
