Glucocorticoids are known to provoke a growth delay in the superior animals. The final effects that cortisol could produce in pregnancy by altering the utilization of the dietary protein and the amino acids liberated from tissue proteins by the catabolic action of cortisol were studied. The results are discussed, and a table shows the influence of cortisol on protein utilization in pregnant rats and on birth weight and nitrogen content of pups.
