Effect of intercropping on growth, yield and quality of Banana

The intercropping study was conducted at Banana Research Station, Jalgaon with an objective to find out a suitable intercrop for June planted banana. Soybean, Urid bean (Black gram), Green gram, Cowpea, Sesamum and Wal bean (Bush type) along with control (no intercrop) were evaluated for their effects on growth, duration, yield and quality attributes of Grand naine banana. All the intercropping treatments recorded significant desirable influence on the growth, duration, yield and quality attributes. Highest number of hands (9.03), per cent harvesting (95%) and Maximum number of fingers/bunch (154.03), longest fingers (20.70 cm) and highest bunch weight (16.51 kg) was recorded in case of Banana + Cowpea intercropping.
