The effect of parity on maternal hair chromium concentration and the changes during pregnancy
1981
Saner, Günay
Mean hair chromium in multiparous women was lower than that observed in nulliparous women of similar age. No significant difference in hair chromium was observed, however, between multiparous women and women who had given birth only once. In hair samples collected from women longitudinally each trimester throughout their pregnancy, mean hair chromium was seen to decline with advancing pregnancy. This step-wise decrease was significant only in the last trimester in pregnant women whose initial hair chromium content was low. These findings suggest that unless adequate chromium is ingested during pregnancy, increasing parity may result in chromium deficiency.
