1982 Equipment buying trends
1982
Liesse, Julie
Replacement and renovation rather than new construction were 2 common responses to an industry conducted survey on equipment buying trends for 1982. Paying cash, leasing pieces, and buying multi-functional equipment were ways cited to avoid high financing costs. Operators are also faced with an unsettled economy, government funding cutbacks, and tight money. Schools have been hardest hit by the depressed economic conditions. Energy concerns rated highest in the 1981 survey; therefore more energy saving equipment was purchased this year. Electric kitchen equipment is increasingly popular, possibly because of price increases of natural gas. Survey results indicated a sharp drop in the number of equipment pieces purchased. (rm)
