Triterpenoids from Dittrichia viscosa

A phytochemical study of the aerial parts of Dittrichia viscosa resulted in the isolation of 10 triterpenoids as free alcohols, acetates or fatty esters. One of the esters, 3-beta-acetoxydammara-20,25-diene-24-ol, has been isolated for the first time as a natural compound. This substance, as well as the 20,23-diene-25-ol isomer, was synthesized by photo-oxidation of dammaradienyl acetate. Fatty esters of 2-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-ethanol were also isolated.
