Activities undertaken by the public relations committee of the Kansas City Dietetic Association to promote nutrition and the concept of registered dietitians as the most qualified nutrition experts are summarized and briefly discussed. These include the use of radio, television, and newspaper contacts; television broadcast training for 15 dietitians; a "yellow-pages" telephone listing with a 24-hour answering service; and an entry in the annual St. Patrick's Day parade. A literature review (pointing out the massive annual output of misleading nutrition information in the US) confirmed the need for registered dietitians having nutrition education training to promote and market their skills to the public.
