Extract: Dependence of preschool children's nutritional status on weaning practices, socioeconomic situation, and number of children in the family was examined in a rural area of northern Thailand. A negative influence on nutritional status was shown for families with a large number of children, and for early weaning practices. Even in a good socioeconmomic situation, a negative influence on nutritional status was indicated, which is explained by the increased number of children and a short nursing period in these families.
