Employment characteristics of mothers during pregnancy
1983
Makuc, D.
Data gleaned from the 1980 US National Natality Survey were used to assess the work experience of pregnant women. Employment characteristics before delivery differed notably according to live-birth order, maternal age, race, education, and the length of time since the last live birth. Employment before delivery was greatest for women without previous children and with education beyond high school. Black mothers with previous children were more likely to work than white mothers with the same number of children, and women with a live-birth interval over 2 years were more likely to work than those with a more recent live birth. The survey data are presented and other relationships are discussed.(wz)
