Impaired wound healing in surgical patients with varying degrees of malnutrition
1986
Haydock, D.A. | Hill, G.L.
A study of the possible association between nutritional status and wound healing in 66 adult surgical patients revealed the development of higher levels of hydroxyproline after 7 days in the wounds of 36 well-nourished patients than in the wounds of 21 patients having mild protein-energy malnutrition (PEM) and in 9 patients with moderate-to-severe PEM. The relevance of these findings to the role of malnutrition in wound healing is discussed.(wz)
