2015
Tiwari, Narendra Kumar | Singh, V. B. | Srivastava, R.K.
The present investigation carried out to obtain information about general and specific combining ability in parents and F₁ generation, derived nine 9 x 9 diallel cross (excluding reciprocals) of bitter gourd (Momordica charantia L.) over two years (2011 and 2012). Parental line Pusa DoMousami emerged good general combiner for vine length, fruit diameter, number of primary per plant branches and fruit yield per plant, while NDBT-12 showed highly significant general combining ability effect for vine length, fruit length, and fruit yield per plant. The NDBT-7 wasthe best general combiner for all the traits studied except number of primary branches per plant. The cross NDBT-2 x K. Sona had highest sca effects for fruit yield along with number of fruits per plant. The highest specific combining ability for average fruit weight was recorded in NDBT-9 xPusa Do Mousami while NDBT-7 x NDBT-3 was the best specific combiner for vine length.
