Gibberellin A12(GA12) GA15 and GA20 were identified by full scan GC-MS from a culture filtrate of Phaeosphaeria sp. L487, in addition to the previously identified GAs, GA1, GA4, GA9, GA24, and GA25. The early-non-hydroxylation pathway from GA12-7-aldehyde to GA1 was shown to be present in the fungus by feeding studies of [1,2-3H2]GA4,[17-14C]GA9, [17-13C 3H]GA12-7-aldehyde and [17-13C, 3H]GA20. The fungus metabolized GA9 to GA1 via GA4 and GA20. Comparison of the conversion of GA4 and GA20 to GA1 based on HPLC analysis indicated that the conversion of GA4 to GA1 was more effective than that of GA20 to GA1. The pathway from GA9 to GA1 via GA4 and GA20 is novel in microorganisms and like that of some higher plants.
