The present study aimed to evaluate the genotype's effect on the overall quality of four early ripening apricot cultivars ('Monaco Bello', 'Maia', 'Orange Rubis' and 'Spring Blush'), and to investigate the interrelationships between the parameters and the cultivars analysed, as well as the relationships among variables, by principal component analysis (PCA). 'Orange Rubis' showed good pomological traits, while 'Monaco Bello' showed the highest phytochemical content, which was strongly correlated with its antiradical potential. PCA allowed to differentiate cultivars and to find out variables that mostly contribute to this differentiation, providing information to the breeders on cultivars with enhanced quality, and therefore more useful as parent for the production of new cultivars with improved healthy characteristics.
