Extract: The levels of 11 essential minerals in 234 Total Diet Study foods were determined, and daily intakes of those minerals were estimated for eight age-sex groups of the U.S. population. Levels of potassium, phosphorus, and selenium were adequate. Iodine was excessive for all groups, and sodium was excessive for two groups. Levels of calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, and manganese were low for some or all groups.(author)
