Biomanagement of Meioidogyne incognita infecting okra in West Bengal, India

Field trials were conducted during 2010-13 summer season (April-July) on okra cv Arka Anamika to understand the field efficacy of fungal bioformulations of Paecilomyces lilacinus (PL) and Trichoderma harzianum (TH) for management of root knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita). Results revealed seed treatment @ 20 g/kg of seed with PL and TH as the most effective and economic approach for management of M. incognita in okra. Application of Paecilomyces lilacinus (seed treatment) + PL mixed with 2.5 tlha farm yard manure (FYM) was found to be the most effective for reduction of root galling severity, suppression of soil nematode population and enhancement of fruit yield. However, seed treatment with P. lilacinus and T. harzianum gave maximum yield advantage. The present investigation demonstrated field efficacy of fungal formulations both as seed treatment as well as soil application with FYM for root knot nematode management.
