Global prospects for agriculture
1981
O'Brien, P.M.
The eighties are likely to show continued strong growth in foreign demand for agricultural products, but reduced growth in foreign production. Hence, growth in the rest of the world's demand for U.S. products is likely to continue strong, possibly near the record rates of the seventies. With both foreign and domestic demand for U.S. farm products likely to increase, the eighties could well be a period of transition from the overproduction and burdensome surpluses of the fifties, sixties, and early seventies to a time of full capacity production and tighter supply/demand balances by the nineties.
