Distribution of dipeptides containing D-alanine in Oryza species
1990
Manabe, H.
Oryza species were classified into three groups according to the type and levels of dipeptides containing D-alanine (D-Ala) that are present in the plants. Type I plants contain high contents of D-alanylglycine (D-Ala-Gly) and a low content of D-alanyl-D-alanine (D-Ala-D-Ala). They form D-alanyl-L-alanine (D-Ala-L-Ala) as well as D-Ala-Gly and D-Ala-D-Ala when D-Ala is fed. Cultivated rice plants belong to this group. Type II plants contain only D-Ala-D-Ala and they can be further classified into IIa, IIb and IIc according to the amount of D-Ala-D-Ala they contained. They form only D-Ala-D-Ala even when D-Ala is fed. Type III plants do not contain any dipeptides containing D-Ala and they do not form any dipeptides containing D-Ala even when D-Ala is fed. Oryza coarctata, which is classified in the distant part of genus Oryza, belongs to this type.
