Nutritional traditions in Turkey (with reference to education needs)
1981
Merdol, Tahire O.
In the light of some of the problems associated with nutritional traditions in Turkey, two approaches to nutrition education are possible. The first approach, involves the application of nutrition education to unalterable negative social conditions (low socioeconomic status, inflation, unemployment) and would be rejected from the beginning. The second approach represents the only way that nutrition education can be of functional value and would align nutrition education to appropriate infrastructural changes needed by the society. For example, if better child nutrition is a social need in order to slow down mortality rates, nutrition education would be integral to a comprehensive program involving the training of women, extension of preventive medicine, improvement of environmental conditions, and food control.
