Body burden concentrations in humans in response to low environmental exposure to trace elements
1997
Valentine, J.L.
Few studies have been published relating low trace element environmental exposures and resulting body burdens. This paper presents an evaluation of concentrations of arsenic and selenium in human urine when low concentrations, less than 30 micrograms/L, in the drinking water were consumed. Five communities for arsenic exposures and three communities for selenium exposures were selected. A good dose/response curve for selenium was obtained but the correlation coefficient, r = 0.9508, n = 3, was found not to be statistically significant (p > 0.10). A similar dose/response curve was obtained for arsenic and found to be statistically significant, r = 0.9898, n = 5, p < 0.002.
