Changing trends in dietary habits and cardiovascular disease in Japan: an overview
1992
Goto, Y.
I would like to present an overview of the relationships among cardiovascular disease, nutrition, and aging in Japan. The Japanese diet has changed dramatically in the last 40 years, and the "traditional" diet is no longer typical. The Japanese diet today is more westernized, and not all Japanese eat large quantities of rice and fish as once was true. These dietary changes have been accompanied by several health consequences, including a decrease in the incidence of cerebrovascular disease. On the other hand, the incidence of cardiovascular diseases, particularly ischemic heart disease, has increased.
