Dietary guidelines and exercise suggestions for weight control and health improvement/maintenance are discussed in a brief review. Benefits, specifications, and risks of calorie, carbohydrate, protein, fat, and oil intakes are considered. It is pointed out that exercise should be an enjoyable passtime like play, rather than a chore to be shunned for lack of time. The benefits of proper diet and exercise are enumerated (e.g.: resting pulse and blood pressure reduction; reduced body weight and fat; increased lean body mass; decreased blood fat). The characteristics of various forms of exercise (aerobic training; strength training; isometric training) also are discussed. (wz)
