The study was carried out to determine the genetic variability, correlation and path coefficient analysis of seed cotton yield and component characters. The experimental material comprised of 60 Bt cotton hybrids of various seed companies, and experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications at the Regional Research Station, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during Kharif-2012. The genotypes showed a wide range of variability for all the characters. The characters lint yield, days to 50% flowering, number of bolls per plant, number of monopodia per plant, number of sympodia per plant and boll weight showed positive and significant correlation with seed cotton yield at genotypic and phenotypic level. The path analysis revealed that lint yield, number of bolls per plant, number of monopodia per plant, boll weight and days to 50% flowering excreted high and positive direct effect on seed cotton yield at both genotypic and phenotypic levels. Seed cotton yield, lint yield, days to 50% flowering and ginning per cent had moderate to high heritability estimates coupled with high genetic advance. It is suggested that these characters could be considered as selection criteria in improvement of seed cotton yield of G. hirsutum.
