Consommation de boissons en France : préférences culturelles et contributions à l’équilibre nutritionnel | Beverage consumption in France : cultural preferences and contributions to the nutritional balance

Hébel, P.
To assess the intake of fluid in French consumers, considering amounts, types of beverages, data were extracted and analysed from a national intake survey (2007), which was conducted in quota samples of the French Population (Comportements et Consommations Alimentaires en France). The greater part of the beverage ingested is water consumed alone, in all age groups, and is taken during meals and at home. Beyond this general observation, beverages consumed are very different depending on the age of individuals. Children and adolescents consume mainly dairy drinks, fruit juices and BRSA (soft drinks), while alcoholic beverages and hot drinks are mainly consumed by adults and seniors. More than half of the different classes do not follow the recommendations on beverage consumption (49% of kindergarten, 64% of primary, 87% of adolescents, 70% of adults and 77% of seniors). Current data indicate that energy from beverages represents about 10% of daily energy intake.
