Robotic extraction of vitamin C from food samples
1985
Vanderslice, J.T. | Higgs, D.J.
An automated method is described for the precise extraction of ascorbic acid (AA) from foods. The extracts can then be analyzed for AA content using a high-performance liquid chromatographic system containing an Aminex A-25 column. Optimization of the extraction conditions is detailed, such that no loss in AA occurs during 24-hour storage of the extracts. Application is shown to the analysis of AA and dehydroascorbic acid in orange juice, a vegetable cocktail, and in fresh broccoli and potatoes. A diagrammatic representation of the robotic extraction system is included.(wz)
