Seasonal variation of peroxidase activity in chestnut trees
1998
Havir, E.A. | Anagnostakis, S.L.
Peroxidase (E.C.1.11.1.7) activity in twigs of American (Castanea dentata), Chinese (C. mollissima), and Japanese (C. crenata) chestnut was determined monthly over an eight month period. The total amount of peroxidase activity was highest in December and April for most trees. An inhibitor of peroxidase activity was present in the extracts which could be removed by gel filtration. Extracts from healthy twigs had consistent major bands on IEF gels. However, a new band was detected in bark of American chestnut after wounding or infection with chestnut blight fungus (Cryphonectria parasitica).
