A reliable, simple method of estimating daily evapotranspiration (ET) is required for a number of agricultural and hydrological studies. We present tests of an evapotranspiration model by comparison with lysimetric observations. Daily ET rates estimated by the model for sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] and soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] were within 2 mm of lysimetric estimates. The model uses daily inputs of temperature, solar radiation, and leaf area index; included in the output are estimates of transpiration and evaporation. Seasonal evaporation contributed about 15 to 20% of the evapotranspiration. Evapotranspiration was about 10% greater from soybean than from sorghum.
